February Shopping Detox – Week Two Review
Joodie | Wisdom Gathering, Wrap Up17 Feb 2011
In this post I declared that February would be a shopping free month for me. Outside of the necessities like food and medications I’m trying to keep my cards in my wallet and my wallet in my purse and my purse zipped securely CLOSED. The results so far?
Purchases:
1 reoccurring payment to Aweber … $19.00
1 reoccurring payment to Big Fish Games … $6.99
TOTAL: $25.99
I consider 1 out of 2 purchases necessary. I really like to know I can have a professional newsletter go out to any of my readers should they decide to sign up for that form of communication with me.
Lessons: Obvious weakness = digital purchases (still). I just can’t seem to stop them from happening. I wanted to play my video game because it’s just something I can do to wind down and not stress over. I can’t decide if video games are okay or not. You gotta have a little room in your budget for fun right? Maybe I just need to stick to my one video game per month credit that I get with that subscription.
Pat On The Back: It was Daisy’s birthday on the 15th and I managed not to spend any extra money on anything frivolous for her. Just spent the day pampering her with belly rubs and then a trip to her favorite foodie place with my mom (which took care of the bill).
Note: So far this month has felt very difficult. I keep getting urges to shop. Sometimes I just want to go into a Target or Kohls type place and let my purchases find me. I wasn’t expecting quite this much resistance to the detox. I’m more addicted to shopping than I thought. There is even a huge electronics store going out of business FOREVER and it’s killing me not to go find a deal on a new camera or gadget. Seriously, I really want to go. Other thing I find myself thinking about is what kind of present I’m going to buy to reward myself after this whole month is over. Slightly messed up? Yes. I work on a reward system to get myself to do things.
To Do: Come up with new kinds of rewards that do not cost money!
